ROK TV on Blackberry phones

ROK TV has just launched a new Freeview TV service for UK mobile phone users. The company uses its own media player designed to work on the widest range of phones using standard 2.5G signals as well as 3G and Wi-fi.

Download the player and follow the simple setup instructions to start watching TV. The channel line up currently includes BBC One, BBC Two, E4, and ROK Tube - with more channels to follow. A unique and particularly appealing feature of the service is that it does not require you to be on any specific network, meaning you can be on T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone or Orange and still receive the TV signal.

ROK's marketing director, Bruce Renny, says. “We believe ROK TV free streamed Mobile TV comprising BBC TV channels is a first in the UK.”

Sounds good, but what's the catch… Apart from standard phone charges and a little advertising, which you would expect, there is none - the service is free. Until now, mobile TV uptake has been slower than many had anticipated, but this significant and innovative move by ROK offering free TV that works on almost any phone or network may well prove to be the boost the industry needs.

The UK version is still in beta stages, so expect one or two teething problems, however, the company seems confident enough in announcing a US version which it plans to launch in the next few weeks.
